The first model of Piaget Polo was released in 1979. The Polo S is the 2016 version of this model. First time I saw it, I thought it looks like the Patek Philippe Nautilus and Aquanaut and the Vacheron Constantin Overseas: a blue dial steel sport watch in an integrated bracelet. Yves G. Piaget said "The entire Polo philosophy can be summed up in one sentence: it's a watch bracelet rather than a mere wristwatch." In reality the Polo S does not have an integrated bracelet. The bacelet is so well adjusted to the case that it gives the impression it is integrated one. The bracelet can be replaced with a leather strap. In fact it is also sold on a blue leather strap. The metal bracelet is composed of an alternation of polished and brushed links. The overall aspect is quite shinny. |

It is however not the bracelet that catches your eyes first, it is the dial. I like the shinny blue color of the dial. The dial color is also enhanced by the horizontal stripe pattern that is covering it. The dial is very Nautilus-like design. The shinny blue color of the dial is thus changing with the light source position. But there is something else with the dial. The first time I saw I had the feeling that this watch had something different but I could not point my finger on. Then I realised that the watch had a square-like dial in a round case. It gives the watch its own personality. The case is quite large, 42 mm, but the watch looks smaller because of its 9.4 mm thickness. The watch is looking fine on small 16 cm wrists. The watch is also 100M waterproof, it is fine for a steel toolwatch. |

The watch is a basic three hand watch. Markers have a pointing stich shape. The date window is located at 6 o'clock, the "Piaget" signature at 12 o'clock, and "Automatic" is written at 6 o'clock above the date window. The date window has a trapeze shape. The minutes are written with a white font on the border of the blue dial. The second hands has a "P" in a square as counterweight. The hour and minute hands are lumed but not the second hand. The bezel is flat and has a vertical satin finish on top and its side is polished. The lugs are also polished. |

The watch is powered by a Piaget in-house automatic 1110P movement. The caliber caliber offers hours, minutes, seconds, and date features. The power reserve is around 50 hours. This caliber also has a stop-seconds mechanism to precisely adjust the second hand. The 1110P caliber is visible through the transparent sapphire caseback. The movement has circular Cotes de Geneve, circular-grained mainplate and bevelled bridges. The Piaget coat of arms is appearing on the grey rotor with circular Cotes de Geneve. "PIAGET", "MANUFACTURE" and "1110P" are also written on the rotor. Verdict
There is a height year waiting list to buy a Patek Philippe Nautilus at retail (26,000 euro) or it will now cost you 70,000 euro on the secondary market. For those, who do not want to wait or can not afford it, the Piaget Polo S is an alternative that should be considered. It is steel sport watch with a round case and a square blue dial, quite similar to the Nautilus and Aquanaute. It is available right now, for a third of the price of the Patek Philipp models. The bracelet is not an integrated one, you can replace it with a leather strap when you want. It has an in-house movement, and a charming blue dial. The Piaget Polo S is a versatile model that stands in the Nautilus/Aquanaute-look watch segment. It don't want to be mistaken, this is not a Patek hommage, the watch has its own personnality. Once you wear it, you feel you ar ewearing someting different. It's a watch that really deserved to be seen in real (do not rely on photos to make you opinion, that is an advice relevent for every watch, but especially for this one).
